Could any one help me understand what "composition fee" means within the context of college admission'. What would be fair translation into Spanish?

Hi Hebe, I have never come across 'composition fee', couldn't translate it easily, but at the University of Cambridge web site there's a full page on 'fees' , I've read the following:

University Composition Fee

This is the fee levied by the University for the teaching and supervision you will receive from your Department or Faculty. It is payable for the duration of your course, i.e. three terms for courses up to one year and nine terms for three year programmes. The University Composition Fee is collected by your College. Once payment of fees for these mandatory periods is completed, you may apply to be exempted from the University Composition Fee. You may also be eligible for exemption from the University Composition Fee if you are granted leave to work away from Cambridge for the purposes of research (e.g. fieldwork) or if you intermit your studies (e.g. through maternity leave, ill health etc).

Presumably, it is the fee the college will charge for its services, isn't it? Hope it helps!

Hebe, yo lo interpreto como cuando traducimos "exam fee" como "derecho de examen". Es un dinero que le tenés que dar a la universidad para que te deje presentar tu composición.
No se me ocurre ninguna traducción rápida en este momento. Contame cómo lo resolviste.

Trillones de gracias olga y mvictoria. La ayuda que me dieron ha sido de gran valor para mi, pues estaba trabada con esta farse . Por la definición de la Universidad de Cambridge, creo que seria mas general llamarlo derecho de tutotía (teaching and supervision) o tasa por oncepto de tutoría. ¿Cual les parecería mas adecuada?.

First my translation, then a little background info.

"Composition Fee" = "Tarifa por asistencia a clases"

In Spain there are three fees that most University students must pay: the General Tuition Fee ("Precio de Matrícula"), the Registration Fee ("Precio de Secretaría") and a Personal Insurance Fee ("Seguro Escolar") which is compulsory for students less than 28 years old.

The "Composition Fee" does not exist. The cost of lectures (laboratories, etc.) is borne by every student through the General Tuition Fee whether he attends lectures or not.
