Post ¿Como se dice Submarine Sandwich?

Can anyone tell me how I would translate "Submarine Sandwich"? I am translating a menu targeted to mostly Mexican consumers in the U.S.
I know sandwich is torta, but I don't know if there is a type of Mexican sandwich that is comparable or if I should just use the generic term "Torta"? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How about "torta italiana"? The Mexican "torta" is already a cousin to the submarine. Calling it a "torta italiana" would certainly describe it well. I don't think there is anything wrong with calling it a "submarine" or "submarino", adding an explanation or description to the name. Are you going to use a photo of the "torta"? That might be a good idea. Remember that the word will have different meanings to different nationalities. For some it means a type of cake.

The best "torta" I ever ate was at a Korean-owned Mexican fastfood joint in Montebello (just east of East Los Angeles). The owner explained that he had gone from Mexican restaurant to Mexican restaurant, ordering, eating, and comparing the "tortas" he found. He then combined the best features of all. His creation was outstanding!

i agree - 'torta italiana', is a term already in use, and quite familiar
in the u.s. in the form of 'italian sandwich'.

while 'sub', 'submarine sandwich', and 'hero' (new york-new jersey)
are common terms, but everybody knows what is meant by 'italian sandwich'.

Depends on where you are serving it, keep in mind that different areas, although they speak the same words, can have different meanings, probably your best bet would be Torta Italiana, as this a very generic term that most will understand.

Yes this would work depending out your demographic, keep in mind that there are many different dialects of Spanish, and the contexts means a lot when you are speaking Spanish, a Transliteration for UNA TORTA SUBMARINA would be A Submarine cake which is not what you are selling. In fact I would like to change my last post and say I would go with sándwich italiana which means Italian sandwich, or even Estilo italiano sándwich (Italian Style Sandwich). It is really going to depend on where you are selling.

That is why I think I would go with Estilo italiano sándwich (Italian Style Sandwich) that way it is simply describing the style of sandwich not what is on it.
