    Default The word shelf

We have a warehouse. There are big metal shelves. What is the best way to say "look on the shelves for the hammer" or "It is on the shelf".

Also, would book shelf be different? Or maybe a shelf in your bathroom, is there another word for shelf here?

    Thank You,
    Michael

Hi Michael. You could say "Busca el martillo en el estante" or "el martillo está en el estante"

    Hope it helps

    Thank you,
So what is a repisa or a anaquel? Are these the same?

Yes Michael. They are almost the same thing, although repisa is not used to described a store0s shelf, at least not in my country. I suppose it depends on the region.

Hi daniel, repisa is much smaller than estante. In Spain we say estantería. Anaquel seems to be very old fashioned for estantería. I didn't know the word.

this would be a very typical example of repisa:

My mostly Mexican students use librero for bookshelf, and estante seems to be more general to them. Repisa I think could also mean ledge, for example window ledge or whiteboard ledge, and I think it's also sometimes used to refer to the fireplace mantel.

¿Qué piensan los que de verdad hablan español sobre mis sugerencias?
