This thread may sound slightly random, but here goes.

I am getting a couple tattoos soon and I want them in spanish. I have a very basic understanding of the language and hoped some1 could help me out with the correct translation.

1 is to say "Loved and lost" - I have "amo y perdio" which I believe sort of translates as "it loved and it lost" is this right? Is it correct to use this?

The other is to say "My life is my masterpiece" - I have "mi vida es mi obra maestra" is this right?

1.- Loved and lost could be translated as perdido(a) y amado(a) depending on who or what was loved and lost (a person, a pet etc.). I would need more context for additional help

Yes: Amado y perdido/querido y perdido (in Spain we might prefer the latter)

The text I am wanting is from the saying - "it is better to have loved and lost, than never to have love at all", But I am just wanting the "Loved and lost" part.

So I suppose the context is a person - as in I have loved and lost. Could I use amada y perdida?

The term would be "amar y sufrir"

The sentence would be:

Es mejor haber amado y sufrir, que no haber amado nunca.

"Es mejor haber amado y perdido que nunca haber amado" es el dicho.

"amada y perdida" is ok ... but in my opinion sounds definetly better in English than in Spanish, don't you think?

Maybe "amada y olvidada" sounds better... please wait for the others1 opinions.

I have been reading and I was for "amado y perdido" (o "amada y perdida" if you were referring to a woman), in the case you referred to someone else... but have you thought, guys, Technicholl could mean he loved and lost and in that case, it could be "amé y perdí"... kind of baring his soul and telling the world about his loss after having loved... wow! poetic (and sad), right?

as to the masterpiece... "mi vida es mi obra maestra" is not bad at all. it reminds me of another phrase in Spanish: "cada uno es arquitecto de su propio destino" ("each one of us is the architect of their own fate", sort of...). so, if you were able to make a masterpiece of your life... or that's the general plan for your life... CONGRATS! ;-)

Amar y sufrir, indicating that you loved and then, as you lost your love, suffered.
