I was told there is a word dondito that means dum-dum, and I cannot find it. THAT's the word I am looking for.

Context please!!! But I'll I give it a try...

"dum" is sometimes used for "dumb," being foolish and uninformed, in which case it means "tontito".

Is this what you mean?

In Argentina, we don't say "menso" David. (It's like listening to Quico talking to el Chavo ) but "necio" could be a good choice. The word "tonto" is very much used but might be offensive if you're not talking to a friend.

your phrase should take the verb "ser" (not "estar"), "No sea tontito, hombre", but I guess if you want "tontito" (not offensive, rather endearingly), you're addressing someone close, and in an informal tone, therefore you would use the "tuteo" ("voseo" in Argentina): "No seas tontito, [name]." (the "hombre" doesn't match the close- informal- endearing tone). another thing to bear in mind: if you're addressing a female, it should be "tontita" .
