esto (neutral)/ este (male)/ esta (female)
Esto es un escritorio / esto es una mesa (This is the objecto you're talking about it is followed by a verb) Esta mesa es blanca (it is a demostrative adjetive for femele nouns) Este libro está sobre la mesa (it is a demostrative adjetive for male nouns) Please correct me if I'm wrong.
