Default letter to El Salvador student #1

Hi,
We would appreciate any help with these letters to El Salvador students that we sponsor!!
Thank you.

Dear Oneyda,

Thank you very much for your Christams greetings. We like your star and Christmas tree that you made with yarn. We enjoyed hearing how your family celebrates Christmas. Maija, Liv, Jim, and I had a special meal and then went to church at 10 p.m. The service was beautiful with candles, communion, singing, and praying.

Thank you also for sending your report card. We are very proud of you, and of your excellent grades. We know that you work hard at your studies.

We had fresh snow for Christmas. Our family likes to have fun in the snow. It is peaceful and beautiful.

Jim and I hope to come to El Salvador with one of our church groups sometime soon. We will be so eager to meet you, Rosa, Daniel, and the rest of your family.

God's blessings

Silent night, peaceful morn
joy to all, Christ is born.

Default hope it helps

Querida Oneyda:

Mmmmm, I wonder, is it a Roman-Catholic church or perhaps an Evangelical type church? At least here in Puerto Rico, Roman-Catholic's services are called "misa", but Any other church (not necesarly evangelical) will call the service "culto".

I'm curious to know if other countries also make this distinction. Also, what diference do you perceive between "orar" and "rezar"?

You are most welcome, blueluna. here, we are happy to help people like you who also help others.

magictoaster: since she said comunion, I assumed it was a Catholic church that is why I translated misa instead of culto. Of course, it does not mean that is has to be Catholic.
I am aware that culto is the word for Protestan church.
orar y rezar, at least Catholic church uses both. I think Protestant churches use more the word orar. But when in Catholic church you refer to prayer, at least in Cuba, people don't say rezos (a word which is more identified with santeria, the Afrocuban religion), they say oraciones.

I am sure there are other differences and peculiarities in other countries.

I just want to add something: (about the salvadoreans) they don't like (hate?) when others say "Salvador" "Al Salvador" in reference to his/her country please don't forget it! the correct traduction is "El Salvador"

Thumbs up

You are right, the correct translation is "a El Salvador".
