Hello all,
I am new to the forum and very impressed by all of the helpful folks on here. I am trying to translate a simple phrase for a sign and my Spanish skills aren't the best. I own a car wash and we have been having cold weather problems, so I'm putting up a sign that says "Open weather permitting." Is there a similar expression in Spanish? All I can come up with is something like: Sólo abierto cuando buen tiempo. Does that make sense in Spanish? Or is there a better (and simpler) expression, or some obvious rule that I am forgetting? Thanks in advance for your help. |

Hi, Cobunk, and welcome to the forum.
You're forgetting a rule: The verb is missing in that sentence (ok in English, but not in Spanish). Your phrase should read: "Sólo abierto cuando haya buen tiempo/ cuando el tiempo sea bueno"... Simpler? "Abierto con buen tiempo". Hope it helps! Maybe someone else has a better option. And you're welcome ;-) |

it could be something like: "Abierto sólo si hace buen tiempo" o "Abierto sólo si el clima lo permite"....

Thanks again for your help,
I put "Abierto con buen tiempo" on the sign and it looks great. I'm glad I found this forum and I'll be back when my Spanish improves . . . and maybe even if it doesn't. Cobun |

I would have gone with "Clima". Although "Tiempo" means Weather, it can also mean Time. Tiempo is not wrong for your sign, but "Buen Clima" conveys a clearer message... ahahahah, ohhhhhh... clearer... get it? Ahhh, ahah.... man, that was lame. |
