El término "wannabe" ha sido traducido al español de distintas maneras. Una de ellas es "proyecto frustrado de". Creo que lo de "aspirante" no refleja el tono peyorativo que la palabra "wannabe" tiene, claro que dependemos siempre del contexto, aunque es la traducción más utilizada. Otra manera de traducirlo es agregando el prefijo "seudo", pero es menos frecuente.
