    Default Traducción "Panfish"

¿Alguna idea de cómo traducir esto? Son peces que tienen un tamaño tal que entrán enteros en una sartén. ¿Cómo lo traducirían?

Me suena "peces pequeños", "pesca pequeña", y podrías poner incluso "peces tamaño sartén".

No me da esa idea. Se pueden freír filetes de pescado y la cocción en la sartén no necesariamente es frita.

Viene seguramente de una contracción de Pan-sized fish. Se refiere al hecho de que entra en una sartén, no que es para hacerse frito.

I ate a lot of panfish as a kid, always fried because they are were so small. We ate them whole, minus the head, after scaling and cleaning.

Panfish are usually caught in freshwater rivers and lakes but as franco said, a panfish is determined by it's size so I suppose even a small saltwater fish that will fit in a pan could qualify; however, if you speak of panfish most people envision a hand-size freshwater fish..

The only way I have ever eaten them is fried. Most are too small to filet so there was the ever-present danger of getting a bone stuck in the throat which was very painful and scary as a kid. They can be grilled as well, or put in a fish soup, but frying is the primary cooking method.

    Question Re: Traducción "Panfish"

Perhaps asking in a local Fish Shop would be a good idea. If such a category exists, they should know. <・)))><<

We can fry and grill "a la plancha" in a pan. It's just a matter of how much fat we add to the pan. This comment doesn't solve the question about the size though.

The size of a panfish is generally considered to be that of any fish that will fit into an ordinary frying pan whole. There is no single species called a panfish. There are many. They are usually no larger than a man's hand.

    Per Wikipedia:

A panfish, also spelled pan-fish or pan fish, is an edible game fish that usually doesn't outgrow the size of a frying pan. The term is also commonly used by anglers to refer to any small catch that will fit in a pan, but is large enough to be legal. However its definition and usage varies with geographical region.[1] According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the term was first recorded in 1796 in American Cookery, the first known cookbook written by an American.[2]
