    Default I happened to hear

Hola. ¿Cómo traduciríais "I happened to hear" en el texto que pongo a continuación?: Before Mrs. Waldrum left, she could not get a servant for love or money to stay a night in the house. I did not know how she was situated, or I would have come to her sooner; for many half-a-crown, and many a quarter of tea, and many a pound of sugar she has brought down with her own hands when I lived on the other side Latchford Common; and it would have been a wonderful ghost could have frightened me away from her when she was in need of help. At last I happened to hear and walked over.

En este caso, "at last" quiere decir "finally".
