Hi everybody, my name is Lida and I am from Lima, Peru. I am having trouble translating a survey for an american company.
It has 89 statements but I have trouble with the following words and phrases: Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, Strongly Disagree You do not have a soft side You take things as they come. You let things happen at their own speed. I also need help translating the title of these 2 documents 1) Applicant Assessment Survey 2) Equal Employment Opportunity and last is the closing paragraph of a legal document: I have read and understand the paragraph above. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you. |

Lida, the first row indicates how strongly the person taking the survey either agrees or disagrees with each of the statements. They must respond to each statement with one of the above choices, e.g. "Disagree". "You do not have a soft side." can mean that you do not have a gentle aspect to your personality, or a caring, compassionate side. "You take things as they come." can mean that you adapt well to whichever situation is presented to you. You cope well with changes. However, it can also mean that you do not try to change things; but usually it does not mean this. "You let things happen at their own speed." usually means that you accept whatever happens with patience and without assertive intervention. It would be a passive approach, rather than an active approach. "Applicant Assessment Survey" means that job applicants are being tested. (The employer apparently has certan types of personality traits that he is searching for, and many of these questions seem designed to determine if the job applicant has either a passive or assertive personality, or is somewhat neutral in that respect.) 'Equal Empolyment Opportunity" is usually written as "Equal Opportunity Employer". In the U.S., there are many laws against hiring discriminatiion based upon an applicant's religion, age, ***, disability, race (skin color), etc. They post this to announce that they comply with U.S. laws, and to protect themselves in the event of a lawsuit. So they are saying that each applicant has an equal opportunity to be hired, based upon his/her qualifications. " I have read and understand the paragraph above." This is placed here to get the applicants agreement that they have read the rules, and cannot later say, "I was never told about that." Again, this is a legal protection for the company. Hope this helps, Rich |
