    Default Everybody ¿singular o plural?

Por años me lo explicaron, pero las explicaciones no fueron del todo claras. Cuando el sujeto es EVERYBODY, se considera ¿singular o plural?

    Ejemplos, comparaciones, todo me sirve!

    Muchas gracias

Body is singular therefore each body and every body is singular. Everybody is like saying each and everyone.

If you're having a party you would NOT say everybody ARE welcome; everybody IS welcome.

All is plural. All; all persons; all of you; are welcome to the party.

    More examples?

Everybody KNOWS PIM is having a party. The plural would be We or They all KNOW there is a party.

Everybody WAS surprised to hear PIM was having a party; All of us WERE surprised to hear it.

Now, let me ask you a question: is todo el mundo singular or plural? I think it is just like everybody...singular, no?

Gracias por los ejemplos!!! Quiero aclarar que por el momento no estoy organizando ninguna fiesta, pero cuando suceda, serás invitado!

Coincido en que "todo el mundo" corre la misma suerte que "everybody"

Por ejemplo, "Todo el mundo toca bocina ante un embotellamiento de tránsito"; sabemos que no todo el mundo lo hace, pero se hace hincapié en el factor irritante que genera escuchar los bocinazos tan fuerte que hace pensar que todo el mundo lo está haciendo.

The word "Everybody" uses the singular conjugation of the verbs and is treated as singular in English.

Sorry... but this is not open to discussion. This is just the way the cookie crumbles.

I had not thought of it but I suppose it is an idiom...

"This is the way the cookie crumbles" means basically "This is just the way it is".
