Need Help Translating! Thank You
Will you please check the translation below:
Apply water-proofing sealants. Aplica selladores impermeabilizantes.
Pre-treat carpet traffic lanes. Trata la alfombra carriles de traffico.
Remove soap film in the bathroom. Elimina los residuos de jabón en el baño.
Thank you so very much
Re: Need Help Translating! Thank You
Oceanmd,
Are you translating into Spanish from the English?
Spanish often uses the infinitive for directions like this. For example: "Eliminar los residuos."
Anyway, here is my attempt at the Spanish.
Aplicar selladores impermeabilizantes.
Pretratar los carriles de tráfico en la alfombra.
Eliminar el residuo de jabón en el baño.
Re: Need Help Translating! Thank You
Thank you so much, James. Yes, I am translating from English into Spanish. But I am still confused. These ate commands or imperative sentences. A professional translated the phrase: "Kill mold" as "Elinima el moho"
Please advise
Re: Need Help Translating! Thank You
Oceanmd,
That's one of the questions I'd like to have native speakers of Spanish answer. I see the infinitive used for the imperative all the time in instructions (as well as the 3rd person singular imperative, as you have noted). But I never hear it in colloquial speech. I wonder how it sounds to native speakers. Is anyone reading who can shed some light on this?
If you do things online in Spanish, such as banking (which is a great way to practice your Spanish), banking sites have text like: Realizar un pago. Hacer un pago. But maybe these are in response to a "what would you like to do" kind of question.
UPDATE: I talked to a native speaker of Spanish, who said the infinitive is fine for instructions.
