Default Went on vacation or on holiday?

A mi me nació otra duda, ¿holiday o holidays?

I believe a holiday is referred to an event that is celebrating something i.e Christmas, Easter, Labor day ext.

A vacation is time taken away from work, school, or whatever it is that consists of your normal daily activity.

Thank you chris.r for clearing that up for me. I went on vacation would be the correct option. I am speaking as an American. Perhaps across the pond they do use the word holiday when we would use vacation.
