Default La Alma or Alma, as a name....

If you have a friend with the name Alma and you were having a conversation with someone and they asked, "Who are you with?" Would you reply with, "Estoy aqui con la Alma" or "Estoy aqui con Alma" ?

I know that la Alma is like saying my soul, or my baby, or my darling.

Hi, speaking correctly in spanish we Never may put "El/La" before a personal name, but informaly speaking we sometimes do it, its sounds very weird.

Hi! I 100% agree with Salvadorm. In Spanish we never use "el/la" before a personal name. However, we can put those articles before nicknames and surnames.

Yes, just like Barbara says we can add those articles sometimes. Occasionally in spanish we add articles before Country/City Names, for example "La Argentina", "Los Estados Unidos".

I agree, we don't use it in Spanish most of the time, but we can use it in an informal way. In this case we definitely we have to say just "Alma" (estoy aqui con Alma) as you can not say La Alma (cacofonia) and you can not say El Alma because you are referring to a woman. A little tricky ah!

Salvador is right. It is neither correct nor common to use an article before a name. Therefore, the correct statement is "Estoy aquí con Alma". Concerning the meaning of the word "alma", you are half way right. The word "Alma" - with capital "A" - is a name. The word "alma" - with lower case "a" - means "soul", and can also be used as a complement.

Hi, Markiejw. If you refer to "Alma", with capital "A", you should not use an article. Therefore, the correct sentence is "Estoy aquí con Alma". On the other hand, the word "alma", with lower case "a", refers to "soul" and can be preceded by an article. However, the definite article for this word is "el", not "la". Therefore, the correct phrase would be "el alma".
