Default how do you translate "virtually"?

    Hi all,
I need help translating this word, which I don't think should be translated as ""virtualmente" since it makes no sense in Spanish.

The site remained *virtually* untouched for many years until archaeologist XX explored it in 1897.

According to RAE, "virtualmente" means De un modo virtual, en potencia, con frecuencia opuesto a actual o efectivamente. And there are other meanings that don't make sense in this context either.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

    Hi Andrea,
I would translate virtually as "prácticamente".
"El lugar quedó prácticamente intacto por muchos años hasta que..."

    Hope it helps!

Thank you both for your replies. I used "prácticamente". I think this is a one of the typical false cognates that can't be translated literally, but I couldn't figure out the word in Spanish.
    Thanks again!
