The walrus is a symbol of death for the Beatles. When the Paul's dead histeria came out, it was all related to John's references to "Paul is dead, he is a walrus". Then , he wrote I am the walrus to kind of let it go from Paul. When the Beatles broke and Jhon was so bitter about Paul (John was right), he wrote "Glass Onion", there he said "the walrus was Paul". It's all palying with semantics that remind us of what was happening inside the group by then.

re: yello matter custard dripping ...costra amerillenta que supura del ojo de un perro muerto.

you have to take it exactly for what it says, what you have to dig is exactly what made him say it. it's about being high, about drugs and experimentation. Lennon (he admitted only later) always wanted to experience what was out there, and he did eveything possible to reach it. I think he did.
Lennon always used these twisted meanings. He was saying this is how I see the world. And it is not straight, its crooked, vicious. If you're gonna love it you will have to live with sentences like ... yellow matter custard, dripping...

Happy to be here, forgive me if I get you bored about it all.

I Am the Walrus

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.
See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly.
I'm crying.

Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday.
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus,
goo goo g'joob

Mister City P'liceman sitting
Pretty little policemen in a row.
See how they fly like Lucy in the Sky, see how they run.
I'm crying. I'm cry------------ing,
I'm crying. I'm cry------------ing.

Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye.
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess,
Boy, you been a naughty girl you let your Knickers down.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus,
goo goo g'joob

Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun.
If the sun don't come, you get a tan
From standing in the English rain.
I am the eggmen, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus,
goo goo g'joob goo goo g'joob

Expert texpert choking smokers,
Don't you think the joker laughs at you? (ho ho ho, he, he he, ha, ha, ha)
See how they smile like pigs in a sty, see how they snied.
I'm crying.

Semolina pilchard, climbing up the Eiffel Tower.
Elementary penguin singing Hari Krishna.
Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allan Poe.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus,
goo goo g'joob, goo goo goo g'joob, goo goo g'joob, g'goo goo g'joob g'goo
(rhythmical speaking along with juba's).
Juba juba juba, juba, juba, juba, juba, juba, juba juba. Juba juba.....
(speaking)

--Repeat (eventually juba's will stop) and fade until end.--
during the fade out background vocals:
[Simultaneously:] 'Everybody's got one' and 'Oompa, oompa, stick it up your joompa' [jumper]

Interesting story Mario (the lyrics was interesting as well). Beatles´ break-up was a very sad thing indeed. It was for me anyways ‘cause I never had the chance to see them together. When I learnt about them (or rather when I was old enough to appreciate their music) they had already split up. Lots of people blame Yoko for it, I guess we’ll never know. What really puzzles me is that I never heard any of the songs you are referring to. I guess I was more attached to their old romantic songs such as “in my life”, and “Stand by me” or their songs about friendship and peace and even those with a nostalgic touch such as “Penny Lane”. Too bad I never had the chance to see them perform together, but I think their music will live on forever. Don’t you?

Hebe,
Not only will their music live forever; hopefully, it will continue to make people better. The world's better place ever since "The fab 4" started playing thier music. I am 36, they broke off the year I was born, officially a year later. Well, I was 10 when Lennon was shot. Let me rephrase Don McLean "but something touched me deep inside, the day the music (Lennon)died". I became a fan as a kid, mainly because (believe it or not) their music was banned in communist Cuba.
Over the years, I developed an unexplainable relationship with thier music. It has enriched my life in may ways, and their impact still lingers. Evey 8th of December, in my native Guantánamo, I lecture different groups of youngsters about the Beatles and their influence.

Today, I have found another singer (Leonard Cohen)to create that impact on me, and you know what kills me is the fact that he is 73 years old and only 7 years ago I learned about his wonderful existence. Better late than never...

Well, as you may have realized, I love the world of music when it's about good lyrics.

Thank you for sharing this.

Mario

Thanks Mario, I'm almost 29, I think I was 4 when Lennon was shot. I had no idea about anything, or their music at the time but now I like it, and I learn to play some in the guitar. That their music will never die is a fact.

There's always been a discussion about what Lucy in the Sky song really means, I think Lennon said he took the idea of a drawing by his son Sean, but now I'm the Warlus and your post confirms what I've always suspected, only someone who smokes too much can write something like that! :-D

I don't care, I guess we'll never know certain things, I still like their music.

I'm very surprised that Lenon's songs were banned in communist Cuba.
Spatiality taking into account that some of John's lyrics reflected certain congeniality towards said regime. Lennon's song "Imagine" brings a message of brotherhood, sharing, non-possession… pretty much the fundamentals of what Marx's Doctrine originally was meant to be. The only thing I really dislike about this song is the meta-message that God does not exist. As an astronomer, I have certain (though limited) notion of how infinitive this universe is and how perfect nature's ways are. In my opinion, there is no way such a magnificent wonder could have been created out of nothing. Aside from that I think the song had a positive message. and I will always long to hear those 4 Fabs.

Default God and Lennon

Hebe,

God is too big a concept. However, I do think Lennon is talking more about the Church's role, and how it's sometimes been a source of disagreement, to say the least.
The song is probably Lennon's catharsis. I have a personal difficulty to deal with very famous songs.

Well, the beers are telling on me. Time to sleep.

God bless you all,

Mario

Hi Mario … I did notice that you are more inclined to the unknown rather than the popular (Leonard Cohen for instance, a singer I haven’t heard much about). This only confirms what I perceived (and said) from the beginning.. you are a man with a unique and very special taste…
I must point out though that I don’t think Lennon was just referring to the church’s role, or religions. The lyrics goes beyond that by saying “Above us there is only sky” (as opposed to that special place we all call Heaven”). The meta-message here is “Don’t believe in God. There is no goodness and there is no evil". Believe me Mario. There’s evil in this worl; and just by mathematical induction you can infer that there is Goodness as well.

Hope I did not offend you with my comment, but to me God is number one priority, my light , my guidance and my strength; He is the source of the love I have towards my dear family, my friends and the rest of mankind.

Regards

Default God

Hebe,

My absolute respect to those words. I also share part of those thoughts. You know what? I never took Lennon too seriously about this song.

best,
Mario

Oh yeah, I wouldn’t take him as a role model either. And of course, it doesn’t matter which John Lennon we have come to know. It is undeniable that he was a music genius indeed.

Bye domino man !!!
