Semillero - I've seen this used for negative situations like "hotbed of crime/unrest" or as a horticultural term.
Does anyone know if this works?

    Hola Ana:

"an enviroment that favors rapid growth or development"... We need to know exactly what this is about.

Ohhh I see, well, this is an extract from which I got the word: "In the middleof the past century, many of the liberal intellectuals lived here, and Brooklyn was a hot-bed of abolitionist activity."
And I also have a doubt of how can I translate properly into spanish these extract: "He has always lived in Brooklyn, and his mind is a rag-bag for odd scraps of information." I have no idea of how to translate the underlined text without losing the sense of it =S

"In the middleof the past century, many of the liberal intellectuals lived here, and Brooklyn was a hot-bed of abolitionist activity."
"He has always lived in Brooklyn, and his mind is a rag-bag for odd scraps of information."
