french to english translation
Im having difficulty wording this right in english as it is such a long sentence!! and i dont think ive understood it completely!
please help if you can!
Cette prudence me valait d’être maintenant assis, endormi et impatient à la fois, malmené par mes souvenirs, dans l’odeur des premiers sandwiches extraits des sacs de voyage, le train donnant faim et le secouement des boggies étant inséparable, chez les gens à réductions, du fumet du saucisson et des bouteilles bues au goulot.
what ive got so far but i dont like it too much...
this caution led me to be sitting here, dozing and restless at once, troubled by my memories, surrounded by the smells of the early sandwiches being taken from the luggage, hunger being induced by the train, and the incessant clashing/jostling of the bogies were inseparable in the minds of the cut-price passengers from the odour of sausages and drinking straight from the bottle.
Re: french to english translation
Thanks to this prudence I am seated now, dozing and impatient at the same time,
troubled by my memories, amidst the smell of the first sandwiches taken from the travel bags,
the train making hungry and the shaking of the chariots inseparable,
in the reduced-price compartment,
from the aroma of salami and the drinking from the bottle.
it would make more sense to put the sentence like this :
Thanks to this prudence I am seated now in the reduced-price compartment, dozing and impatient at the same time,
troubled by my memories, amidst the smell of the first sandwiches taken from the travel bags,
the train making hungry and the shaking of the chariots inseparable from the aroma of salami and the drinking from the bottle
Re: french to english translation
This text was quite a challenge to translate.
For some reason, I made it more difficult still by making lots of typing errors which I had to correct again and again...
Didn't this writer ever hear about full stops ?
Hope you agree with my translation,
Frank.
Somehow I am fascinated by this sentence and I would propose another solution again :
Thanks to this prudence I am seated now, dozing and impatient at the same time, troubled by my memories, amidst the smell of the first sandwiches taken from the travel bags, the train making hungry and the shaking of the chariots inseparable from the aroma of salami and the drinking from the bottle in the reduced-price compartment.
