Default Dismemberment

Hi!
I was wondering what the translation for this word is into US Spanish. I have found ¨"desmembramiento" and "amputación", but I'm not quite sure which one is used in the healthcare context in the US. The target audience is mainly Mexican and Central American.
Thanks!

Hi Andrea! I'm pretty sure that "amputación" is the result of a medical procedure, while "desmembramiento" is not, so I think the latter is the word you might be looking for.

Vicky's right regarding the difference in terminology. It wouldn't be right to use "desmembramiento" for healthcare proceedure.

Saludiños,

Hola Humberto,

Dismemberment is used in insurance policies, for example, Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance.

Ah, that's right, it's accidental.
In that case you can use amputación too in Spanish. Thanks!
