Default Optometrista?

Hola! Espero que estén todos bien!
Tengo una consulta y tal vez alguien pueda ayudarme. En una traducción puse "optometrista" como la traducción de "optometrist", pero el cliente me dice que esta mal y que quiere que ponga "optómetro". Lo busque en la RAE y no existe ninguna de las dos opciones, aunque ambas se utilizan a diario. Alguien sabe si alguna de las dos esta MAL o si son específicas de algún país o zona??

Hay que tener muy clara la diferencia entre oculistas (oftalmólogos), y optometristas. Hay una mala tendencia a confundirlos.

De acuerdo con Maria Catalina. Los oculistas (oftalmólogos) como médicos especializados, se encragan de patologías oculares, mientras que los optometristas se especializan a un nivel técnico en medir (de allí el sufijo metrista) la visión del paciente. Son ellos los que fundementalmente producen la fórmula que deben llevar los anteojos del paciente.

Optómetra es el equivalente más conocido, por lo menos en estos países de suramérica. Optometrista también aparece en los diccionarios. Es cierto que no están en la RAE, pero no siempre ese es un parámetro para juzgar si una palabra es correcta o no, por que lo que finalmente la convalida es el uso masivo en una determinada población. Las palabras técnicas tardan más tiempo en ser aceptadas por la academia.
