I need to know what are "intrinsic host issues" in this sentence

the reason for this age distribution(exposure risk, disease reporting bias, intrinsic host issues, etc) is unclear.

the text is about avian influenza.
thanks a lot

Hola Mariela. La frase no me queda muy clara, realmente necesitará conocer más antes del tema. ¿Podría lo mejor referirse a problemas intrínsecos del receptor?

Saludos

Eulalia

Hello!
I would translate it as "condiciones intrínsecas del huésped". It refers to the state of the host.
For instance, a hungry animal, or one that is infected with parasites, or stressed is not going to be affected by the virus in the same way. Some hosts have weakened immune systems due to whatever reason not related to the virus itself.
In the sentence probably the birds of a certain age are more likely to be infected.

I agree with Veronica. It refers to the conditions, the "health condition of the host". you could also use: condiciones (estado) fisiologicas del portador
