Steprelatives NO SON PARIENTES POLÍTICOS, ni por afinidad ni por consanguineidad. Son parientes "legales", como le ha definido en México la Corte

A lo mejor en México puedes usar parientes legales. En Chile, definitivamente son parientes políticos.

Los parientes políticos son aquellos que entran a tu familia derivados de una relación indirecta.

Por ejemplo: Tomemos como sujeto central a Carlos. Carlos se casa con María. María es pariente política del papá de Carlos, así como Carlos lo es del papá de María.

Carlos tiene un hermano, José. José es pariente político de María.

And so on.

Pero, tratándose de los padrastros, hermanastros, hijastros, se dice en México que es una relación legal (aunque no estemos muy de acuerdo con ella). A lo mejor está mas claro si decimos que por afinidad.

I've seen it, but the problem is precisely the one that appeared in this thread: some countries disagree on this, since this is mainly a legal term, and countries have different legal systems.

Talking Parientes por el lado del padrastro

Si tuviera que traducir este termino que dices, yo pondria "parientes por el lado del padrastro/de la madrastra". Ese seria el termino mas correcto semanticamente creo.

They are not the stepfather's relatives, in fact, they are a group where you find the stepfather, the stepmother, the stepsister, the stepbrother and so on and so forth, not their relatives.
