English to Spanish Legal Translation Each Spanish market has its own legal system, and it can be rather complex to understand it. Other colleagues can help you compare source and target terminology and Spanish legal concepts.

Default Property transfer in Venezuela for American following divorce

I am a US citizen living in Massachusetts, USA. I bought some real estate in Nueva Esparta, Venezuela with my ex-wife in 1994. We were divorced in January, 2008, and the divorce agreement states that I am entitled to full ownership of the Venezuelan property. The problem is, it is registered in both of our names, and I need to get it registered under only my name (get her name off the deed). I am going to Venezuela in January and would like to get this done while I am there.

I was told I need to submit the original divorce agreement to the Massachusetts Secretary of State to obtain an apostille, and need to present this to the authorities in Nueva Esparta, Venezuela.

My questions are:

- Do I need to get the divorce agreement translated into Spanish? I assume so.

-Do I need to get the WHOLE document translated, or only the part pertaining to the transfer of the Venezuelan real estate into my name only?

-Can anybody do the translation?

-Do I get the apostille for the english language version of the divorce agreement, or must I get it translated and get the translation certified by the secretary of state ?

- Do I only need to present these documents to the authorities in Venezuela, or are there other potential problems I may run into?

I have tried to call the Venezuelan consulate in Boston many times but they do not answer my calls. If you can help me, please let me know what I must do.

Thanks in advance,

Anitje

Hi anitje, welcome to the forum.
This is a translation forum so, the questions you're asking must be answered by a lawyer and maybe a Venezuelan one.
Do you need translation? most likely but you will need to pay for this job. This is not something we do for free.
And about the Venezuelan consulate in US. I believe USA and Venezuela no longer have diplomatic relations, so I don't believe you'll get any answer.
We have a member who is Venezuelan and also does legal translation and she's top among us. Hopefully, she will have some answers for you.
Good luck!

Thanks, Sandra.

Yes, I may need translation services based on the answers to my questions above. If you can, please either tell me how to contact the member you mentioned, or please contact her for me.

Hi friends !!!

Welcome to the forum Antje !!! and nice to hear from you again my dear friend Sandy !! I have just sent a private message to both of you: Let me try to help Antje from here. Having someone on the other side helps reduce the distance from Boston to Caracas and will make the process a lot eassier

Best regards
