Default swish swash

Como traducirían esta oración:

Retailers expect to close the year amid the swish swash of smooth plastic on the electronic credit card readers

Muchas gracias chicos

Hola carita.

Quote:
swish swash
1. (adj.) The tendency to leave one's windshield wipers on even after the rain has stopped.

¡Suerte!

Default Swish Swash

SandraT,

Maybe this will help you help Carita.

The meaning of the sentence is that retailers expect to close the year with the sound of many credit cards being used. Therefore, they expect to make alot of money at the end of the year.

Lo siento por mi Espanol.

Respectfully submitted,

Steve

Hi Steve! It's ok to post in English. Please, feel free to do it, specially when you are giving such a great help here.
There is only one thing I am not so sure about. The swish swash is a sound made for no reason, that is, it is not raining and still the person it's using the wipers.
So, could the swish swash of the plastic in the credit card be related to something like this? or just the sound? and thus it is exactly what you mean...

Default more Swish Swash

Ok,

The words "swish swash" have no meaning in this context. They simply represent the sound made by cards moving through the reader.

An onomonopoea is a word that mimics a specific sound when spoken and it is spelled like it sounds. For example: A cow says "moo." Moo doesn't mean anything except that it is the sound a cow makes when spoken (in English).

Imagine the sound a card makes being quickly moved through a reader from top to bottom (swish) or from bottom to top (swash). Now imagine lots of cards being read all around you (swish swash). No rain required.

Other uses for swish include the sound of a basketball going through the rim but only touching the net or the sound of a woman walking in a skirt (the **** side-to-side movement). As a result gay men are sometimes called a swish because of the way they walk.

There are thousands of onomonopoeas.

Suerte!

Steve

PS: not sure what happened the first time I sent this.

Ok, Steve. Now I get it. So, the retailers are going to get richer by the end of year...
I think in this case swish swash can be translated as: el sonido del plástico de las tarjetas... so as not to leave it in English. Right?
I hope carita has a finished translation now.

....celebrando grandes ingresos.
