Anyone knows where T.G.I.F (Thanks God (or Goodness) It's Friday) is most used?
US, Canada, U.K? The phrase was originated and became popular in US but I would like to know more about its use... ![]()

David, I don't know if I understood.
I mean the phrase TGIF, I also say it in Spanish of course, but do you mean in Mexico people use TGIF as in English? It would not surprise me because of the border, but I just wanted to have it clear.

I been living out of the U.S. for 15 months now, but I understand that there, these days, folks are required to Thank God for everything or otherwise risk deportation or detainment. Can anyone attest to this?

Hi guys,
For me TGIF started when I was around 10 years old and they had the 2 hour programming of family friendly shows on Friday nights that they called "TGIF". I’m from the states and I think anyone in their 20s will remember this, it was a Friday night ritual with sleepovers. Anyway, when I hear TGIF I think of Perfect Strangers, Full House, Mr. Belvedere, and Just the 10 of Us. The actual debut of the TGIF was in the 1990-91 season. As the years went on they added shows like Family Matters and the Brady Bunch-inspired Step by Step. It also reminds me of the Saturday night line up, SNICK, on Nickolodean. ![]()

TGIF is very commonly used in the US but mostly in an advertising way like emilyb's post showed. We have a restaurant chain named T.G.I. Fridays. Radio programs use that expression a lot. We use Thank Goodness its Friday.

Emily - I concur! TGIF was big around my house. My younger sister (who is now 21) was a Full House junkie and her right eye would start twitching if she couldn't watch it. I couldn't stand the show, but Family Matters was nothing less than dope!
