Does that site have anything besides *** references? Do people actually use these phrases?

The dictionary is useful for looking up references of pop-culture or made-up phrases. I would think it helpful particularly for non-native speakers who have a hard time understanding very colloquial phrases that, on their own, have no meaning at all.

Here are some examples, all found in the Urban Dictionary:

    bromance
Describes the complicated love and affection shared by two straight males.

    stacation
The art of staying at home with paid time off from work and totally enjoying the time.

    twihard
An serious/obsessive reader of the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer, one leap above Twilighters.

The website will most likely have fairly accurate definitions for any slang words, but it's full of ridiculous jokes and phrases that no one with any self-respect will use...

True but it's still a useful reference, regardless of it not being the Oxford dictionary.

Me too, furthermore, I love slang and 'street language'

I'm 'studying English' from the original scripts of 'Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and The Blues Brothers'...

¡Gracias Cdloz! / Thank you Cdloz!

Solo para responder a Sarsparilla. Creo que cualquier diccionario es una herramienta útil, si se la sabe usar correctamente. El diccionario no viene con manual de inteligencia y creo que es necio no tomarlos en cuenta. / Just to answer to Sarsparilla. I think any dictionary is a useful tool, if you know how to use it correctly. The dictionary doesn't come with an intelligence manual and I think it's foolish not to take them into account.

Sorry folks, but I think anybody who is serious about learning English should be warned about this site and be very cautious in relying on it as a reference source.

Urbandictionary is not a dictionary. While it might be of some use in finding a slang term it is also a collection of many non-existent words and phrases as well as real words with warped definitions applied by, and voted on, by contributors who appear to have the mentality of junior high school kids with their minds in the gutter. They invent ridiculous words and definitions for legitimate words that are supposed to be funny in the hope their inventions will garner positive votes. Some are so obscene and perverted that I wouldn't even cite them here.

Here is an example of the silliness:

    TERR!FIC:
This is the language spoken by terrorists.
That guy was speaking terrific, i couldnt understand a word he was saying.

Very funny, no? And very mis-leading to a person learning English who might not realize it is intended to be a joke.

    If you use urbandictionary, beware.
