homework-how would you fill in these blanks?
1) The GP's (General Practitioner) office is called a ...
2)Mum, I've cut my finger! Have you got a ... ?
3) A ... is a doctor who specialises in a certain area of medicine.
4) She's sprained her wrist, so her arm's in a ... at the moment.
5) My mum put ... round my broken arm until we got to the hospital.
6) I went to my ... to ask her for something for my stomach-ache.
Those are the sentences I'm having problems with. The exercise consists of 30 sentences which blanks are to be filled in with words given in a list. Some of the words I think may be right for the sentences above are: sick, GP (General Practitioner), in plaster, a plaster, sling, consultant, and bandage.
Any help will be much appreciated :)

*I think specialices is spelled with an s instead of a c, but when I tried to submit the thread it gave me an error. It said: "One of your words is blacklisted. Please change it (******)"

It would be imensely helpful to have the list of words in order to be certain that you get the correct answer. My answers are based on what I think they might be in the U.S. but they might not be on your list. Use of the word "mum" suggests that this is an excercise in British English so the list is important.

Re: homework-how would you fill in these blanks?

Re: homework-how would you fill in these blanks?
This thead might have been repeated simply by accident and there is no reason to become upset over the repetition nor the request. There is no strict policy against helping with homework. Some of us don't mind. As for me I think any thread that generates interest and discussion is of value. We have had many good exchanges as a result of a simple request. If the original poster does not learn from from it, that should not be our concern. It might offend our members who are classroom teachers but the real question is whether members of the forum learn anything by the exchange of ideas the post generates.

Mer

Well, I couldn't agree less. If this forum wants to keep its serious standard it is essential that requests like this stay unanswered, until the minimum we might expect is given: the forer gives her/his best try.
I am a teacher, not a translator, and trust me, you are not HELPING this poster in the least and certainly not her learning nor her teacher!

Re: homework-how would you fill in these blanks?
Saludos

Re: homework-how would you fill in these blanks?
Siiiii, Hebe!! Ya estás ahí nomás... :)
Chicas, please, no es para tanto Exx. Yo muchas veces he respondido que no hacemos tarea y muchas veces he ayudado a hacerlas también.

Re: homework-how would you fill in these blanks?
With due respect to everybody here, until the administrator of this board makes it a policy not to accept "homework" requests and they become subject to deletion I will continue to help people who ask for help if I choose to do so. If this had been an improper post I, as a moderator, would have deleted it...but it does not fit the criteria for deletion and therefore it is perfectly proper for members to answer the poster's questions. To try to dictate what we read and write here is improper...and has been addressed previously. It is tantamount to censorship. Each member may and should decide for themselves without being intimidated by other members with differing opinions.

As I said before, vicente, you can do as you wish, it is not my call. I will however continue to express my opinion as well as you do, dear.
And I think my opinion is quite clear on this subject and I will certainly not allow anybody to even try to "shut me up". ;)
I insist that it is no help if you do work (namely homwork) for others who do not learn anything if you do their work for them!
However, if you find it pleasing to do other people's work, that is up to you. Just dont think you are helping a student if you are doing their work for them!
If this post had been posted on forums I moderate ,,I would not have deleted it either but would have given the same opinion.

I am surprised that you of all people should be intimidated by anybody. I am certainly not;)

BTW, no one is trying to shut you up (?) Your opinions have always been respected. Do you think you can do the same?:)
Best Regards,

No, mem, I do often not respect others opinions, which should not really bother anybody.
I respect those which deserve respect. Not everybody does, neither does everybody's opinion.

My dear friend... Just one more thing and I'm done with this matter. In my opinion, Hebe and Vicente deserve that respect, since they decided to answer this thread.
Best regards,:)

I am of course not talking about either Vicente or Hebe, if this has been the impression, it is simply wrong.
My previous post was meant in a general sense.
From a teacher's point of view, their participation in this thread was not appropiate.
It would have been different if the poster had given her own try, which was not the case.
I know you have a daughter. I don't think you will like her getting her homework done on a forum when she will be able to use one.
In any case, and I said so before, on this forum, this is not my call;) So be it.

Thanks Exx, but I do not need anybody to tell me where it is appropriate for me to post. This is a forum for discussing translation related matterss, not a classroom and we are adults, not students.

To this I can only say that people who do not respect the opinions of others have no right to expect others to respect their's.
I hope this is the end of this thread as it is going nowhere and will only cause further disharmony. So I'm outta here!

Then you obviously do not realize that you answered a classroom matter. It had nothing to do either with translation nor translation issues.

I wonder why everybody needs to think that respecting the opinion of idiots ( I mean in real life not on this forum) is such a good thing. I certainly do not respect people who have nothing but idiocies to say.
This has nothing at all to do with this forum, though, it is only my personal opinion. So completely off topic.

And if you think a man is going to have the last word...well, welcome to women's world!:p

The poster ask questions about the best choice of English words in certain phrases which, of course, is what translating is about. Maybe they are of no interest to you but perhaps there are members here who would find those answers to be useful.

I think the appropriate way to phrase this would be "welcome to the world of women"
You see, this thread is about translations after all.

you're right about that Vicente. please know that I didn't get upset about the request or the repetition, I only said that it wasn't a good idea becasue I saw another thread like this one. As to the help in the homework I think is a nice thing to do, of course I mean to help not to do the hoemework

Very nicely phrased, Humberto;)
Nobody got upset about the repetition, but it is never a good idea to repeat a thread. If I had moderated this forum I would have combinded the threads as there were two answers. ;)

Re: homework-how would you fill in these blanks?
Hi, to do better your homework you can try to find a tutor, but it is very much no qualified tutors on the internet. There are so much different people, you can find someone why will be good for you.

Re: homework-how would you fill in these blanks?
Hi, I had the same Problem with Spanish at that time, when I had to learn it by myself.
