Open source, better?
Hi everyone!
I've read in many places, not only in this forum, that open source applications are better. But what is open source and why are they better? I know the mail application Thunderbird is open source, but I know a couple of co workers who tried it and got a headache... All input welcome!

At least, open source software/OS gives us more options besides MS... Sometimes you are surprised to know that so many developers or experts are working on open source applications for free during their parttime, and the quality/feature is so good! I happen to know an online translation website for all languges - www.translia.com - is open source too, which is for translators to find jobs/projects, work together and discuss together.
