Default 100 Años de Soledad

Has anyone read Cien años de soledad? I plan on reading it in 2009, just would like to get some opinions on the novel.

Hi! It's an excellent book! Please, don´t miss the opportunity of reading one of the best books from Latinamerican literature.
One suggestion, you should pay special attention to every character (and their names) since you can really get confused; all of them are named more or less the same .

Let me know once you finish reading it.

Saludiños,

Bel

I read it... in Portuguese, and it's a good book. I agree with mariabelen, you should follow closely Buendía's family tree.
It's also a sad and dramatic story, but full of passion, excitement and mistery.
I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for the feedback. I heard it was a very difficult story to follow, but I'll take those suggestions on remembering all the names and characters.

There are some editions that come with a family tree in the back so that it´s easier to follow in terms of characters. Mine is like that.

So maybe you can look into that...It is a great book so I hope you enjoy it!!!

The story is not that difficult to follow. You should keep track of the characters though. (Make a family tree or something). Actually that book is the product of an accumulation of short stories García Marquez had been putting together for several years. I think it is a masterpiece, even though he himself says that he won't be remembered for it but for "El amor en los tiempos de cólera" (which I didn't like that much -it is a variation of Don Juan's story). "Cien años..." has it all, and if you're into literary criticism, you'll be able to appreciate the anthropological part of it.
