I agree with all the suggestions, but if you have time limits and don't want to travel around too much, I personally think the Northwest would be the best option. It offers anything from desert to subtropical forest all within a few hours' drive from any of the major cities (Salta, San Miguel de Tucumán, San Salvador de Jujuy). I think Salta is probably one of the most beautiful cities in Argentina, and San Miguel de Tucumán is also really interesting. There's the ruins of Quilmes in Tucumán, the wine-producing area around Cafayate in Salta, the Quebrada de Humahuaca in Jujuy, and many other things to see. This region of Argentina was very important during the colonial period, so there are lots of sites of historical interest as well, particularly in the city of Salta.
