I came across
http://www.linternaute.com/encyclopedie/ maybe a yr ago and I keep coming back to it when I have no time for my dictionary.
It provides sinonyms, ¨citations, proverbs, dictons¨...and then I just stick around discovering things.
Not sure how on target it is...but it´s been useful to me.
