Hugocar summed it up pretty well. Having as much academic and practical experience in your particular field as well as knowledge of CAT tools and computer programs will definitely help. Start looking through agencies and networking to develop a client base. There are a tonof translation companies in the U.S. and abroad and like hugocar says, each may have their own requirements. Good luck!
