I think this is happening around the world lauracipolla. We are quickly becoming a visual culture dependent on images instead of words for communication and we are suffering because of it. This is a fascinating topic for me and I think it is ultimately the cause of higher illiteracy rates and a general disinterest in words. The fact is, we don't have the patience for words anymore. It is much easier to look at an image and interpret it than to read text critically to get the meaning.

With the advent of more accessible technology in classrooms, more audiovisual aids are used instead of textbooks. When kids are praised for being computer-savy in such a technology-based society and picked on for being book-smart this generates an overall negative attitude towards reading.

Anyone else agree?
